Braid Ins

Every year, the Valley Forge Rug Braiding Guild hosts a spring braid in.  The next braid in, May 4-7, 2017, will be held at the St. Francis Retreat in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and will be our 10th braid in!  We always have a lovely time getting together with other braiders at these events.

We are very pleased to have Pody Vanderwall as our speaker for this 10th anniversary braid in.  Ms. Vanderwall is the great granddaughter of Jessie Catherine Kinsley, who in the early 1900s was an esteemed artist using silk braids as the medium for her “braided tapestries.”  Kinsley’s work is still on display at the Oneida Community Mansion and Museum in Oneida, New York.

In addition to our speaker, and amazing classes, we also have a Rug Challenge.  This year, the challenge topic is, “The Four Seasons.”  In response to a query:  yes, you are allowed to pick only one season to show in a rug.  Please try to make it at least 50% braided; otherwise, combining braiding with other techniques is welcome.

Stay tuned for more information.  Registration for the braid in and its classes will open January 1, 2017.  Classes range from beginner to advanced offerings.  Please see the Class Proposal Page if you are interested in teaching a class.
